you need to find a love that’s gonna last
09 A song that makes you want to dance. I mean, there are so many songs to dance to, but I’ve been dancing to Prince the most often lately.
Prince is one of those musicians who I’ve pretty much always loved deeply and possessively — despite not actually getting to know his music much past the hits. Those kind of music loves are funny, eh? Don’t we all have a few like that? It’s always, “Well, someday I’ll buy/download the rest of their discography, but for now I love these ten songs so much.” Hell, I was like that about Tom Waits for years before I dove into a larger fraction of his discography, and even then there is so much more left to discover — and that’s a dude who always falls into my Top Five. I think sometimes some of us think we’re somehow not allowed to express our love of a band/musician unless we have a comprehensive knowledge of their work — but where the fuck does that expectation even come from? Is that just those of us who grew up in fandoms that competitively demanded that of us? These are the things I think about when I start writing about music more again, woops.
Anyway, back to Prince. hiatustime refers to him as “ya boy Prince” because I grew up next to Lake Minnetonka and light up at any mention of him and Prince used to order steamed spinach to-go at the restaurant my dad used to work at when I was a teenager (but I never met him) AND YET I HAVE STILL NEVER WATCHED PURPLE RAIN. One of my Things To Watch goals of 2014 is to finally see it though. So. There’s that.
"Little Red Corvette" is such a slinky fun song to sing & dance to, you guys. And I want it to be the theme song to, like, every friends with benefits fanfic, because (at least in my interpretation) it’s totally about casual sex that deserves to be something more. Yep.
For dancing, see also: Let’s Go Crazy, Jaan Pehechaan Ho, Rom Jongvak Twist, Modern Love, Crown on the Ground. See also: all the things, omg I’m so bad at thinking of only one thing; all the other things not listed get lonely.
YA BOI PRINCE
We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face. We must do that which we think we cannot.
I always rip out the last page of a book.
Then it doesn’t have to end.
It’s everything Lydia can translate and trust me she’s very confused.
